Brandywine Pink/ WPC/ Sunday Sampler

Elemental

Our instructions are: For this week’s challenge, explore the classical elements of earth, air, water, and fire. and to Take a moment to explore these elements, in or out of balance, together or individually, as you pick up your camera this week.

For me this week, there was some canning.mirroredelemental2017By some, I’m talking over 25 pints and some 15 or so quarts of canned goodness from my garden. And it’s not over yet.

Did you know boil water canning requires a perfect balance of the 4 elements for a successful run?

  • Earth: Bounty from your garden.
  • Water: Boil water canning is best for high acid foods such as tomatoes. It also takes way less time to process. Recommended as best method by the Ball Blue Book.
  • Air: You’ll probably prefer a cooler kitchen with a hood vent over your stove if possible. If nothing else, find yourself a nice fan.
  • Fire: A constant flame on my stove is an essential requirement. Do Not wear clothes that will catch on the cookery or create a hazard. In other words, no swimsuits for your canning experience, please.

Might I add that if you ever get the opportunity to grow Brandiwine Pink heirloom tomatoes, do it without hesitation. They are the absolute best tomato I have ever sank my teeth into. Sweet and definitely a gift from above!

Enjoy your summer goodness!

Collage

JulyFabricCollage

Shopping on eBay gave me an opportunity to share in the Weekly Photo Challenge on this Sunday afternoon. Some lovely fabrics that you can’t find in the stores around here are my display in collage style. I’ve been lucky to find this very reputable seller who has somehow acquired many beautiful fabrics. Now to sort fabrics into color schemes———-a collage for another day.

2 Senoritas & Herb/ Sunday Sampler

It’s time to show off my mother’s stash that I finally put on Etsy today. Sorry I took so long, Mom.

2Senoritas

She does such a wonderful job at hand embroidery. I could definitely see these in a South Texan ranch. hint hint (we have some family there btw)

Strawberry1

This  lil’ berry pattern has a special touch with some blue leaves. They would be lovely sittin’ next to a July 4th dish.

Marjoram1

We used to know a guy named Herb. He was my husband’s boss for a short time. But the ‘herb’ here is obviously not a person, just a lovely Marjoram pattern for someone’s kitchen. Sous Chef’s, take note!

Hope you enjoy your week and this episode of the Sunday Sampler.

Scrubbing Away/ Sunday Sampler

Cringe

There it was in my email. A new project that was supposed to take 1 hour. There were some others but this one had no reviews yet and the picture looked like I could figure it out if the instructions went awry.

Well after this evening, I’m gonna cringe admitting this, but I won’t be putting the first review down. I was taught that if you can’t say anything good, keep your trap shut. Many times I’ve botched that up. But not this time. I am going to one-up this and make it better. I’m fixing the pattern to make it better, faster, easier.  In the mean time, you get to see my finished product. It’s not quite like the one on the pattern page. Similar but not. I eliminated several steps and inserted some of my own.

Bottle scrubber

That little red adornment on the wooden spoon is a bottle scrubber…. of sorts. The yarn is a special nylon ‘scrubbie’ yarn and it will most definitely do the job with all the bottles we wash at this daycare. Didn’t you know that the dishwasher melts water bottles??? And did you know I can throw this little fabrication in the washing machine after each use?? I may have to throw a few of these on the Etsy shop. Wooden spoons not included.

Kerchiefs/Sunday Sampler

Bottle

No bottle of hair color needed when you can cover your hair with accessories. Scarves come in a splendid array of styles, materials and colors. For the purpose of Sunday Sampler, I’m sharing my latest vintage-inspired creations.

After a recent request for a scarf with cloth ties versus the crocheted ones, I took some time to fill the order, add an extra one for good measure in the shop, and waited to see if it was a good option. And guess what?! It sold. So without further ado, I’m making some more and giving some options for the Fall craft show season. These are size small. Hoping to gather my volunteer models this coming week for photos. (crossing fingers)

Have a Wonderful Sunday and Happy Father’s Day!

Stored Up/ Sunday Sampler

In my boxes and multitude of photo albums, I have quite a few gems. Sharing my wedding picture takes it back 30 years as of last Monday. We had recently lost my father to cancer 6 months prior, so the event took on a bittersweet spirit. At least in my mind. Mother took the bull by the horn so to speak to insure I had a beautiful wedding day. With a simple budget, we managed to pull it off. I understood the sacrifice this was to her and I am deeply grateful. And this year she joined FaceBook. Thanks to my aunt’s generous gift to her of a laptop, my mother can finally read my blogs first-hand, my sister’s posts, and those of all her grandchildren, and keep up with the huge family we come from. There are a ton of us!

So Happy Mothers Day and have a wonderful day!

As a mother, I have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. So now it’s my turn to turn the table this Mother’s Day 2017.

Sunday Sampler is a weekly challenge to showcase handmade items. This week I’ve chosen to reuse an old photo that I plan to have framed. Old photos of real moments in my life are the most cherished. Take hold of those stored up photos and Create!

Finally! The Road Taken/WPC/SundaySampler

The Road Taken

We’ve had our driveway blocked for about 2 months. January 8th to be precise; the water main broke sending a river down the road. With no warning, the cavalry arrived to patch it up on Wednesday.

The Road Taken – Literally

aroadtaken42

Another road taken down the Katy Trail with one of my daughters and husband. At least I didn’t receive bunny ears (eyes rolling).

Some more of our walk on the scenic Katy Trail.

aroadtaken62

Another Road Taken with my neice to my favorite section of any store – The Fabric Section! Let me just say this is a gigantic step for the next generation. Fabric purchasing and selection is an unknown territory for many of them. I’m beaming here if you can’t tell!

And guess what?! She sews! Zach you have a good catch…. but I’m sure you know that 🙂

Back to the subject at hand.

Our 3-generation project has begun. Above are the fabric choices she made, the blocks that she and my mother cut out, and the sample arrangement suggestions I sent to her via cell phone. We’re making a special something to use in her July 1 wedding. Can’t tell you what we’re using this for yet, but I can tell you she chose view #2. I am in total agreement.

Have a Wonderful Rest of Your Sunday!!

Save Your Fingers/Sunday Sampler

Sunday Sampler

I opened my FaceBook messenger one morning to see a picture and a little request for the item below.

But I don’t think it was in the right color. So still creating some. Unfortunately they are in a pile next to the sewing machine. Time has not been a friend the last couple weeks. But I did a test run on the one above as you can see and it passed my scrutiny as well as the family’s. I even created a little ‘love’ for my grad student daughter.

As time permits, more will be made. Until then I’ll leave you with a little list of uses for this newfound creation.

He drew my name in our family gift exchange and a little bird apparently told him I needed to go shopping. And shopping I did!
