Evanescent

means lasting or staying only a short time

A real treat to these boys is getting to roll down the hill. These moments make a heart full.

Sharing with you this week a fleeting moment in the life of a childcare provider.

Hopscotch/#AtoZChallenge

During the month of April, I’m participating in the Blogging From A to Z Challenge for my 4th year in a row – 3 of which are on this blog. Each day, except Sundays, there will be a post for the letter of the day as well as keeping with my personal theme of Quilts and Quotes. Feel free to leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you! Also check out the other A to Z’ers in the comment section of the Official A to Z Blog Page.

The Hopscotch block is my Letter H entry for the Challenge. I’ve made a quilt with this pattern before, but it was using string quilt blocks seen below. It was machine pieced and and hand quilted. It might be evident that I like color. chuckle

It’s a one-of-a-kind, sort of like some of the unique children’s games I’ve witnessed being created over the last 24 years as both a mother and childcare provider. The “Children” are the motive for choosing this quilt block.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for the children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

The Snowman/WPC

Magic

One of the most frequent questions I have ever been asked about in my job as child care provider is, “How do you get them all to sleep at the same time?”

Enter one of 1 million ideas I’ve tried over the last 21 years

naptime-magic

This naptime ploy (Miracle Melting Snowman) brought to you by my eldest who thought the kids would like to see some “Magic” after they wake up. Thank you Miss Rachel!

Monsters/WPC

Transmogrify

Sharing some daycare photos this week. Started out with a monster ‘creation’ by giving my little group of monsters choices of which way to create this crazy-looking goul. They were all about it and made their own versions later.

scarymonster

We use recycled wallpaper samples for many projects. The back worked well for a poster in this group activity.

Another ‘photogenic’ idea was the Cookin’ With Kids segment of our week.

monsterbagels

They looked appealing, but let me tell ya, you can’t fool children.

The green tint added to peach flavored cream cheese was not well received. If I could show you their faces, you’d see the Real transmogrify.

Frail

Duct tape fixes everything he says.

File_000 (37)

Notice the seat fixed with sun-faded designer duct tape.

But the plastic finally gave out. Poor Ben, age 4 says, “Steph, I accidentally broke your bike.” I look at him and let him know it was not his fault. This went way past duct tape.

Frail from seasons of winter, summer, spring and fall.

Storm of Separation

Storm

Such total despair can happen when you’re one.

Poor guy just couldn’t cope when my daughter removed him from harm’s way. The storm was powerful but short-lived.

Water

This Daily Prompt brought a smile to my face because I have just the photo for you.

Our Story of the Day,

“The Three Billy Goats Gruff”

Of course there was water under that bridge. But the goats couldn’t just let by gones be by gones ‘like so much water under the bridge’. No. They had to get to their lush green pastures. The kiddos were pretty indignant being it was nearly lunchtime and had some suggestions for that bad ‘tude’.

Troll

And just for the record, Hudson’s “This” did not include anything derogatory. Just a lovely smile. 🙂
