Kerchiefs/Sunday Sampler

Bottle

No bottle of hair color needed when you can cover your hair with accessories. Scarves come in a splendid array of styles, materials and colors. For the purpose of Sunday Sampler, I’m sharing my latest vintage-inspired creations.

After a recent request for a scarf with cloth ties versus the crocheted ones, I took some time to fill the order, add an extra one for good measure in the shop, and waited to see if it was a good option. And guess what?! It sold. So without further ado, I’m making some more and giving some options for the Fall craft show season. These are size small. Hoping to gather my volunteer models this coming week for photos. (crossing fingers)

Have a Wonderful Sunday and Happy Father’s Day!

Reflections/ #AtoZChallenge

Creativity can get stale, stagnant and cause a mental ‘writer’s block’ of sorts at times. In my REFLECTIONS post for the 2017 A to Z Challenge, I’m going to share some things that I’ve accomplised in the week since the end of April.

But first, I’m going to wish my husband a Happy 30th Wedding Anniversay as this is today. We’ll be celebrating later on in the week but I had to throw that in there. He has been my biggest advocate in The Challenge each year. Just when I think I am not going to go forward with it, he’s right there cheering me on. He even helps me catch up on the household chores in the evening just when I think I’ll never make the necessary adjustments to one of the letter posts in time. Everyone has a letter that stumps them and causes us to put it off until the very last moment. Thanks to my hubby for being there to give my mind time to work it out.

Back to the accomplishments. I haven’t written a line since April 30th. I have taken the needed break that many find rewarding after such an intense writing event. It’s not my usual practice to blog every day. The combination of blogging and quilting made it even more intense, even though I worked ahead most of the time. Working full time and blogging daily is indeed an Olympic-style event for me.

To return to my regular routine, there was the crochet,Reflections4

This is a crochet round made with a new ‘scrubby’ yarn. I’ve been giving a few out to try out as both dish washing and showering/bathing use. The results have been good for both. It’s just a matter of personal preference. The yarn comes in many colors so I look for these to be a hot item this coming year as a gift item.

And then there was more quilting. This is my latest project that is waiting for a ‘name sash’. I will be embroidering it and inserting it in the quilt. This is a special request and I’m trying very hard not to rush this one. Some things need careful planning.

In the middle of The Challenge, there was a custom order. I’m very thankful for #1, the patience of the customer, and #2, the volunteer model who helped me out in a pinch. The timing worked out in the end and I think everyone was happy. Thank Heaven!

As for the Challenge itself and the changes in posting technique, I found it worked out very well. I didn’t run across but maybe 1 or 2 blogs that weren’t legitimately participating. There weren’t near as many participants this year, true. But I found it pretty nice to see the conformists running the show and being fine with the changes. In the end, I am happy for the Team Leaders who run the show and were able to have a much less stressful event. Kudos to you all and many thanks for a great year!

Let the Sun Shine In/Sunday Sampler

Sunflowers are historically know for being happy flowers. So a little sun on your shoulders is just the thing to send cheer someone’s way. Which is the inspiration for my latest item on Katy Trail Creations on Etsy.

And then of course it helps that my daughter is enjoying these beauties in person in the  Sunflower State.

Pass It On/Sunday Sampler

Yesterday was Green Ridge Park Day. Annually held, this event brings out local crafters to assemble their booths and wares along the edges of the city park. To put this in perspective, Green Ridge has a population of 476 according to the 2015 Census. But the folks here turn out to support the volunteer fire department, public school that serves grades K thru 12, and other local groups with silent auctions, ticket raffles, grilled burgers and hot dogs and plenty of fun and games for all ages. A real family event.

This morning, I’m sharing with you a few items that sold from my Etsy store listings.

But before I do that, I want to tell you about the fair number of little girls who were interested in crochet, sewing, and beading for jewelry. I must take this moment to stress to readers in all walks of life the importance of passing on these traditions of creating handmade items.

Pass. It. On.

I Say Love, It Is a Flower/Sunday Sampler

thread colors

With so many colors to choose from, the possibilities are pretty endless for the project mother brought by this week.

Mothers Rose

Here is the framed view of her table runner she’d like me to add a crocheted border to. I only have to decide on the thread size and color and the pattern choice. No pressure. I’ll probably stick with white though. Be on the lookout for it in completed form in a future Sunday Sampler.

Autumn leaves

And speaking of thread color, I’m lovin’ this cotton thread the hubby was unswayable about in his preference on the shelf. I’m so glad he influenced my purchase.

I invite you to link here with your handmade creations. I’d love to see what you’ve made!

A Little Latino/ Sunday Sampler

I’m back from the A to Z Challenge and with that I’ll begin the Sunday Sampler again. To start I’m showcasing Momma’s Set of 2 Flour Sack Towels with this picture.

Varnished/ Letter V

I was knee-deep in a blanket project request from my one and only sister

when I got another request. This was on January 6.

This person asked if I could make an entire kerchief with lace as in this kerchief edging.

IMG_4258 (2)AAnd so the quest was on.

After much pattern deliberation, and the purchase of a larger ball of crochet thread, I began what I hope will be to her satisfaction.

Leather and lace

The reason I chose ‘Varnished’ for my blog title is to be seen below……

I needed a model and Rachel had a case of the giggles. I’m glad she’d only had 1 margarita and was not Varnished.

So what do you think the Verdict will be?? Will this be Victorious?  I’d appreciate your Vote!

I’m Elvis/ Letter I

One of my favorite White Elephant gift projects of all time was an apron.

Not just any apron, but an Elvis apron.

Whadaya mean Elvis?

Well here, I’ll show you.

🙂

This item was created with my embroidery machine, AKA Brother Esante’ that is 20+ years old now. Still going however not always in a strong way. Since moving it to my basement sewing room, I have yet to put it to use. I hang my head when I tell you this.

Back to the gift. The recipient was pretty dang pleased and so was his wife. Maybe she saw the potential of having hubby do more dinners after work? I wouldn’t blame her. (FACT:My husband is a terrific cook.)

The gift was repeated as an item on Etsy and I’m told it was a surprise gift from daughter to her father. They lived states apart and it was heartwarming  me to do the shipping        ‘to Dad’.

Just playing around with an idea. I took this idea from Pinterest and went a different direction with it. And, These are officially and specifically for my Mother-in-law. She’ll be using them for her coffee mugs or maybe as candle mats.

On Etsy, I’ve added a set with a Tuscan theme.

*Also use them for applique on your craft creations.
*Add a to a gift decoration.
*Combine them on your wall for a set of medallions wall art display.
*Sew them together for a larger trivet.

Embellishment ideas:

Pillows, pillow cases, hats, hand bags, t-shirts, sweaters, quilts and blankets, scrapbook pages, hand-made greeting cards and so much more. Create ear rings, Christmas ornaments, jewelry, hair clips or gift tags.

Thanks for stopping by for my Sunday Sampler.

Craft Shows in my Future

Took a break this week from the Victory photo challenge theme. Instead, focusing on work, family and more work.

Work related post can be seen on this link. But those of you who know me, know my work is also childs’ play. Lucky me! 🙂

With a craft show season in full swing, I’ll be seeing (hopefully) a restocking of my inventory so that I can have more to post about. Until then, hope to see my local folks in Cole Camp, Missouri this coming Saturday. Windsor, Missouri the following.

Going to be a cold one so wrap up!
