Kerchiefs/Sunday Sampler

Bottle

No bottle of hair color needed when you can cover your hair with accessories. Scarves come in a splendid array of styles, materials and colors. For the purpose of Sunday Sampler, I’m sharing my latest vintage-inspired creations.

After a recent request for a scarf with cloth ties versus the crocheted ones, I took some time to fill the order, add an extra one for good measure in the shop, and waited to see if it was a good option. And guess what?! It sold. So without further ado, I’m making some more and giving some options for the Fall craft show season. These are size small. Hoping to gather my volunteer models this coming week for photos. (crossing fingers)

Have a Wonderful Sunday and Happy Father’s Day!

Stored Up/ Sunday Sampler

In my boxes and multitude of photo albums, I have quite a few gems. Sharing my wedding picture takes it back 30 years as of last Monday. We had recently lost my father to cancer 6 months prior, so the event took on a bittersweet spirit. At least in my mind. Mother took the bull by the horn so to speak to insure I had a beautiful wedding day. With a simple budget, we managed to pull it off. I understood the sacrifice this was to her and I am deeply grateful. And this year she joined FaceBook. Thanks to my aunt’s generous gift to her of a laptop, my mother can finally read my blogs first-hand, my sister’s posts, and those of all her grandchildren, and keep up with the huge family we come from. There are a ton of us!

So Happy Mothers Day and have a wonderful day!

As a mother, I have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. So now it’s my turn to turn the table this Mother’s Day 2017.

Sunday Sampler is a weekly challenge to showcase handmade items. This week I’ve chosen to reuse an old photo that I plan to have framed. Old photos of real moments in my life are the most cherished. Take hold of those stored up photos and Create!

Meet “N”

my-9-00-mm

My 9.00 MM.

I’ve done quite a bit of damage this past week with this lil’ Gat.

Other “Pet Names” can include:

  • Piece
  • Carbine
  • Repeater
  • Saber
  • Ordnance

The retired law enforcement hubster could give me more names, but we’ll keep this list small for starts. I may end up on a list with the NSA, CIA, FBI or who knows??

Around here though,

Keeping it clean with crocheted washcloths.

dishcloths-image

Uses for a Hand Crocheted Dishcloth don’t stop with the dishes.

  • Nubbies are great for scrubbing your countertops
  • Soft texture is nice for baby’s bathtime (or Mom’s)
  • Keep them handy for a quick trivet when the bowls are too hot for your table.
  • Dust and toss in the wash.
  • Teether towel. Just dampen with cold water and serve to sooth those tender gums.
  • Add to gift baskets this season with other kitchen or bath items.

Eco friendly and durable, these will last for many years with proper care.

Hope you enjoyed today’s shot of the Sunday Sampler

Autumn leaves

A few weeks back I told you how much I loved this yarn. And I seem to have quite a bit more of it than I thought. These washcloths sold pretty well back in the most recent craft show and so figured I’d experiment a little bit more.

As you can see these are multi-tasker crochet rounds. We even used some old ones in my stash for painting with my daycare children. Paint and Press we called it.(that’s a post for another day) But for those who need photo props or mantle decorating ideas, I’d like to suggest another alternative in photo form.

garland

Grab some twine or ribbon and thread them along. Even strung with party lights on your deck, you’d be all ready for fall parties and events. Garlands are all the rage this season!

More crocheted rounds available now on Etsy!

It’s Not Sunday/Sunday Sampler

Being a bit under the weather this last week has me a bit behind. Here in Missouri, we allergy sufferers are anxiously waiting that first frost. So feeling sorry for me, the hubby took my shopping list and dutifully picked out a pair of pillow cases for me. I had a wedding reception to attend and these pictured below would be part of my gift to the loving couple.

The work in progress and completion.

Now I haven’t embroidered for awhile. Since moving my sewing room to the basement to be precise. Ron kept asking me if I was figuring it out as I tapped away at the computer. You see, you have to execute the design before it ever goes into the machine. Takes more effort and time than most people realize. But waaayy less time than creating it by hand thankfully. But I was ok with the results and used the deco pillow as the test item before starting on the actual pillow cases.

Now for the fun part…..sharing the love 🙂

Aren’t they adorable????

Love those cowgirl boots Angela!!

How fitting when they were having tractor pulls literally right outside that door!

Only in Missouri 🙂

Just had to include our favorite 1st grader, Weston! He was quite the dancer!

And may they live happily ever after!

On A Mission/SundaySampler/WPC

Quest

I spent a couple hours Saturday on a mission. I was informed by my resident daughter of Lawrence, Kansas that there was ‘this yarn shop’. No more words needed. We hopped in the truck and headed downtown to The Yarn Barn.

Can you see the focus needed when perusing such a delectable assortment of eye candy?

Unfortunately, my focus had to be on the Price. And then there were the color choices running a close 2nd.

sublimejones425

My eyes located the clearance bins at the back of the store eventually. (Special thanks at this time for the patience of the family for enduring my inspection of each and every single area of this store.) I found this “Jones” shade and we all instantly thought of my pen pal across the pond with the same surname. Not to mention a “Jones” or 2 we are either related to or dear friends with.

hrhendorsedAnd then there’s this Endorsement from the Campaign For Wool with Patron:

HRH The Prince of Wales. We are fans of those Royals and not just the Kansas City variety. Figured this was my sign from above to go ahead and choose this beautiful shade of teal.

100%Wool, to be washed separately, dried flat and no ironing. Directions to be followed to a Tee. Unless you want shrinkage.

Also in that clearance bin were these additional wools that are simply gorgeous. They are so soft and I absolutely cannot wait to make something special with them!!

Yarn Barn in Lawrence, I’ll be back! The Quest continues.

Pass It On/Sunday Sampler

Yesterday was Green Ridge Park Day. Annually held, this event brings out local crafters to assemble their booths and wares along the edges of the city park. To put this in perspective, Green Ridge has a population of 476 according to the 2015 Census. But the folks here turn out to support the volunteer fire department, public school that serves grades K thru 12, and other local groups with silent auctions, ticket raffles, grilled burgers and hot dogs and plenty of fun and games for all ages. A real family event.

This morning, I’m sharing with you a few items that sold from my Etsy store listings.

But before I do that, I want to tell you about the fair number of little girls who were interested in crochet, sewing, and beading for jewelry. I must take this moment to stress to readers in all walks of life the importance of passing on these traditions of creating handmade items.

Pass. It. On.

Petunia Stripes Homespun/Sunday Sampler

Sunday Sampler

About 3 weeks ago I told you about a Ruana pattern I was going to try out.

I’ve been working on it for the last 21 days apparently according to the blog entry dates. I now have a clearer picture of the progress.

File_000(2)

With only 1 skein of yarn left, I’m not sure I’ll have enough to make the extra generous length this project requires. But the coloring is very rich and it will wrap someone up pretty nicely when I get finished with that last bundle you see there. I may be calling this a wrap. Pardon the pun.

Leave It To Me/ Sunday Sampler

Sunday Sampler

The recent October Crochet World was full of ideas I’d like to try out. If I only had enough hours in the day.

File_005 (2)

I did have an hour yesterday between laundry and more laundry. Oh, and more laundry.

Grouped together, I can see using them as a

                                                                     *      party favor

*   garland for a mantle

*     gift bag decoration

*    or applique for an Autumn blanket.

I’ll probably settle for the napkin ring idea. I happen to have a small supply of twine from an auction that was brand new in the wrapper. Score for me! It was only a $1 for the entire box of goodies.

File_003 (4)

Now time to dig out those Fall colors in the yarn stash.

Define Ruana/ Sunday Sampler

Sunday Sampler

Before we know it, the cold winds of winter will be here. After record-breaking heat here in my area, I’m ready. And in my email, there was a  new word. Ruana. Let me define.

According to Red Heart: “A ruana is similar to a shawl, but shaped like a poncho with an opening up the front.” They have 2 crochet and one knit version at the link above.

And on Dictionary.com:
noun 1.a poncholike outer garment of heavy wool, worn especially
in the mountains of Colombia.

Here are a couple examples from Pinterest.

There are sewn versions as well online. They are more blanket-like. As an accessory, I think the crochet version is very pretty.

Here’s my beginning in Homespun Yarn:

Thistle Stitch Ruana

Calling it “Thistle Stitch Ruana”.  If there’s not enough yarn, I have a plan B antidote.
